A Kiwi by birth, Simon is arguably one of Australia’s most qualified general dentists. He has an honours degree in Dentistry, Neuroscience and Human Anatomy and a master’s degree in Clinical Dentistry awarded with distinction from King’s College London. He has been elected as an Associate of King’s College London and is a fellow of the prestigious Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and serves as the Chairman for Queensland. He is also a postgraduate tutor for the Prosthodontics program at King’s College London and is an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
Whilst he has completed a master’s degree in Prosthodontics (including dental aesthetics, veneers, crowns, bridges and implants), Simon maintains registration as a general dentist. Simon’s special interest and skills are in prosthodontics — the restoring and rebuilding of teeth and smiles. He has a particular interest in tooth wear (short, chipped and broken teeth), tooth grinding, acid erosion and tooth replacements (dental implants). A lot of the work he completes involves helping patients transition back from false or missing teeth to a full set of teeth that are securely fixed into the mouth.
Having completed his Prosthodontic master’s degree from one of the world’s leading dental universities — King’s College London — he also works on a large number of dental cosmetic cases. He spends a lot of time with his patients discussing the obvious advantages of cosmetic dentistry but more importantly, the maintenance costs and long-term effects that this treatment can have on the mouth and body. He is known to use a wide variety of treatment options, materials and innovative techniques learnt from his time at King’s College to achieve stunning cosmetic results for his patients that are long-lasting and easy to maintain.
Simon’s education has helped him develop a strong preventive approach to dentistry. He ensures he takes time with every patient to understand each aspect of a patient’s dental health and lifestyle, before deciding on the best course of treatment. He has found over time that it’s the quality of the relationship between dentist and patient that results in the best outcomes.
Simon regularly speaks for Diabetes Australia and also helps diabetes educators promote the links between diabetic control and oral health. He also has an interest in how poor oral health can exacerbate cardiovascular disease.
As a member of the Allied Health Network, he has direct access to many other therapies to improve patient care, including physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage and chiropractic care. He is also a member of the Australian Dental Association and maintains AHPRA registration as a general dentist.
For over a decade he has supported the East Meets West Foundation, regularly volunteering his time providing dental care for orphaned children in Vietnam.
Simon also has a young family and understands well how dentistry needs to grow and change with a family.
