Clear aligners are one orthodontic treatment option and may be suitable for selected patients.
Made of clear plastic, they are a discrete straightening and alignment option.
Clear aligners can be easily removed for drinking, eating, cleaning and for important photos. They can be removed for short periods for a quick break (up to 4 hours total in a 24 hour period).
Without the bulk of more traditional orthodontic treatment options, clear aligners are more comfortable to wear.
Treatment time depends on the type and extent of tooth movement required and varies between individuals.
Costs depend on the complexity and duration of treatment. Your dentist can discuss expected fees after assessment.
Patients are generally required to wear aligners for the prescribed number of hours each day. Your dentist will provide instructions specific to your treatment.
During your clear aligner consultation, we’ll discuss and assess which cosmetic aligner is the better option for you.
We’ll organise and complete any outstanding dental treatments needed before your aligner treatment.
We will take 3D scans of your mouth and bite to design your customised clear aligners (called trays). These take a few weeks to manufacture, so we book you to return in about a month.
We use specialist 3D software to map out your entire treatment, and you’ll see how your teeth will move and review a digital simulation of the planned tooth movements. This is a treatment-planning tool and does not guarantee the final result.
A set of customised aligner trays is created, and we arrange for you to come in for your fitting.
We check the fit of your aligners and provide instructions for use and provide you with approximately 8 sets of aligners. You’ll wear each set for approximately 1-2 weeks.
We follow up with you over regular appointments to ensure your treatment is going smoothly. As you complete each set, we provide the next set, including any adjustments if needed.
At the completion of active treatment, your dentist will assess the result and discuss retention and any further treatment that may be required.
If you want to straighten your teeth, but are worried about the pain and discomfort associated with traditional braces.
Clear aligners may be more discreet and less bulky than some traditional orthodontic appliances. Some patients experience pressure or discomfort during treatment, particularly when changing aligners. Your dentist can discuss what to expect before treatment begins.
