What are the benefits of clear aligners?

Clear Aligners are a considerable improvement on a traditional orthodontic treatment and are growing in popularity. You can straighten your teeth without the stigma attached to traditional braces.

They are virtually invisible

Made of clear plastic, they are a discrete straightening and alignment option.

They are removable

Clear aligners can be easily removed for drinking, eating, cleaning and for important photos. They can be removed for short periods for a quick break (up to 4 hours total in a 24 hour period).

They are comfortable

Without the bulk of more traditional orthodontic treatment options, clear aligners are more comfortable to wear.

They achieve fast results

Experience a shorter treatment time with excellent results in as little as 3-6 months.

They are affordable

The reduced treatment time makes clear aligners surprisingly affordable in comparison with traditional treatments.

Your behaviour influences the results.

To get the best result out of your treatment, it’s recommended to wear your clear aligners for 20-22 hours a day, at least for the first few weeks.

The Process: Aligner treatment appointments

  1. Initial consult

During your clear aligner consultation, we’ll discuss and assess which cosmetic aligner is the better option for you.

  2. Routine or restorative treatments

We’ll organise and complete any outstanding dental treatments needed before your aligner treatment.

  3. 3D scans

We will take 3D scans of your mouth and bite to design your customised clear aligners (called trays). These take a few weeks to manufacture, so we book you to return in about a month.

  4. Seeing your virtual smile

We use specialist 3D software to map out your entire treatment, and you’ll see how your teeth will move and get a sneak peek at the attractive smile that awaits you.

  5. Creating your customised clear aligners

A set of customised aligner trays is created, and we arrange for you to come in for your fitting.

  6. Fitting

We ensure your aligners fit perfectly and provide you with approximately 8 sets of aligners. You’ll wear each set for approximately 1-2 weeks.

  7. Regular check- ups

We follow up with you over regular appointments to ensure your treatment is going smoothly. As you complete each set, we provide the next set, including any adjustments if needed.

  8. Removal

Once your treatment has been successful, we’ll book you in for a final consultation to make sure, and then you can remove your Invisalign aligners for good – with a newly aligned, straight smile.

Invisalign is a specific brand of aligners, so all Invisalign aligners are aligners, but not all aligners are Invisalign. There are other brands of clear aligners available, and your Bite Dental dentist will provide you with a number of options.

Aligners are not known to weaken teeth, but like any orthodontic treatment, they can cause some mild discomfort or soreness during the initial adjustment period. This is because the aligners apply gentle pressure to the teeth to move them into the desired position. However, if the aligners are not fitted properly, they could potentially cause some damage to the teeth. That is why it’s important to have them prescribed and monitored by a qualified orthodontist, like those at Bite Dental.

The length of time it takes to see results from aligners can vary depending on the individual case. In general, noticeable changes in tooth alignment can be seen within the first few weeks of treatment. However, the total treatment time can range from a few months to a couple of years, depending on the complexity of the case and the specific treatment plan. Regular use of the aligners as prescribed by your Bite Dental dentist is essential for achieving the desired results within the estimated timeframe.

Yes, you can take your aligners out for a few hours, but it is recommended to wear them for at least 22 hours a day to ensure the best results. If you need to take them out, it is important to put them back in as soon as possible to avoid delaying your treatment. It is also important to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth before putting the aligners back in to avoid trapping food particles or bacteria under the aligners

It is never too late to straighten your teeth. Teeth can be moved at any age, as long as the gums and bone supporting the teeth are healthy. However, the treatment options available may differ depending on your age and the state of your teeth and gums. It is recommended to consult with an orthodontist or a dentist experienced in orthodontics to determine the best treatment option for your particular situation.
