Treat the cause of dental disease —
not just the damage it leaves behind

A hole in a tooth isn’t the disease. It’s a symptom.

Traditional dentistry is excellent at repairing damage – fillings, crowns, root canals – but these treatments don’t address why the damage occurred in the first place.

BioSmile is different.

Your mouth is one of the most biologically active environments in your body. When harmful bacteria dominate, they drive inflammation, decay, gum disease, and repeat dental work – often long before pain or obvious symptoms appear.

BioSmile is a preventative oral health process that identifies bacterial imbalance and active inflammation at their source. We don’t just detect problems, we guide you through a structured program to restore balance, reduce disease-causing bacteria, and support a healthier oral microbiome long term.

Because fixing holes without fixing bacteria is only a temporary solution.

BioSmile Oral
Health Assessment

See what your mouth is telling you about your health, before symptoms appear

Your mouth is one of the most biologically active parts of your body.

BioSmile is a preventative oral health assessment that looks beyond teeth to reveal active inflammation, bacterial risk, and early warning signs that are often missed in routine dental care.

A different kind of health check

Stop repairing damage. Start treating disease.

Dental problems don’t start with holes or bleeding gums, they start with bacteria and inflammation.

BioSmile looks beyond teeth to assess the underlying disease processes within your gums and oral microbiome, often before damage becomes visible.

The goal isn’t simply to identify the end result.
It’s to understand what’s driving disease, and take early, targeted, preventative action.

Most people only discover problems once something hurts, bleeds, or breaks.

BioSmile is designed for people who want
insight earlier.

Rather than focusing only on hard surfaces like teeth, BioSmile examines what’s happening in your gums and oral microbiome, where infection and inflammation often begin long before symptoms
show up.

This is not about finding faults.
It’s about understanding patterns.

Why oral health matters more than you think

Your mouth isn’t isolated, it’s part of your body’s inflammatory network.

Growing research shows that chronic oral inflammation and bacterial imbalance don’t just affect your teeth. The same inflammatory processes that drive dental disease are linked with conditions such as type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy complications, and emerging evidence suggests associations with cognitive decline and dementia.

When the oral microbiome is out of balance, the implications for overall health can be significant.

The BioSmile Process:
From Identification to
Lasting Balance

BioSmile is a structured, stepped program, not a one-off test. Developed by Dr Simon Franks, it addresses the full cycle of oral microbiome health through four key phases:

We begin with a comprehensive clinical assessment, including an oral microbiome swab examined using microscopy. This allows us to identify active bacterial activity, inflammation, and imbalance in real time. Where appropriate, PCR testing may also be used to identify specific pathogenic bacteria.

Based on your individual findings, we develop a personalised plan to reduce harmful bacteria and inflammation using gentle, evidence-based approaches. Progress is reviewed after a short period with repeat microscopy to confirm improvement.
As the oral environment improves, the focus shifts to maintaining gains through targeted hygiene strategies and ongoing monitoring.
Once balance is restored, we support long-term oral health by encouraging beneficial bacteria, often through targeted oral probiotics. This helps suppress remaining pathogens, support gum health, and maintain a stable, healthy microbiome.

The goal throughout: lasting oral and whole-body health.

The moment most
patients understand

Many patients tell us the same thing.

“I didn’t realise this was what was going on.”

During your BioSmile appointment, you’ll be guided through your results on screen with your clinician. This visual walkthrough is where the information clicks and where understanding replaces guesswork.

What happens in a BioSmile appointment

You don’t just get told the results, you see them in real time.

Your clinician walks you through what’s happening in your mouth, explaining where inflammation or bacterial activity is present and what it means for your health. This clarity replaces uncertainty and allows you to make informed decisions with confidence.

BioSmile follows a conservative, step-by-step approach. We assess first, act only where needed, and focus on early, gentle intervention before disease becomes visible damage.
