There are plenty of dental practices in the Brisbane CBD, but there are a few things that set Bite Dental Studios apart. Dr Franks, a fully qualified general dentist and the founder of the practice, explains the philosophy behind the work that he and his team do.
What’s the appeal of dentistry?
According to Dr Franks, any work that combines helping people and service would make him happy, but dentistry specifically offers a beautiful combination of elements — for him, it’s the perfect mix of art, science and medicine. In fact, Dr Franks couldn’t imagine himself doing anything else, and this passion is something that informs the spirit of the entire Bite Dental team.
How is Bite Dental Studios different from other practices?
Dr Franks has worked in a number of practices around the country, many of which have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. But, says Dr Franks, he didn’t ever really get a chance to get to know his patients in these practices, and he felt like he was simply treating teeth.
“A lecturer once said to me, ‘Your patients are people; not wallets with teeth’,” Dr Franks recalls. “I just felt I was going to go down that path unless I set my own place up.” His aim was to establish a practice that he genuinely felt proud of —a place he would enjoy coming into each day, and a space in which he could get to know each of his patients. So, with that in mind, he opened Bite Dental Studios in the Brisbane CBD.
According to Dr Franks, his patients are much more than that — they are friends. In fact, he doesn’t treat anyone whose life story he doesn’t know. Once he gets to know a patient, he learns what they want. Only then can he provide them with the treatment that’s right for them. Each patient’s treatment plan is unique — it may not always be textbook perfect, but it’s always what the patient wants, and what will best serve their particular situation. “The patient gets the best outcome from it, and I get the best outcome from it because there’s a feel-good feeling at the end of it,” says Dr Franks.
Dr Franks had a very clear vision of what he wanted from a dental practice, and because he couldn’t find it anywhere else, he set it up himself.
Who’s on the team?

Dr Julia Moldavtsev has training in dental surgery as well as sleep medicine. Her speciality involves treating adults and children with snoring and sleep apnoea, and she believes in the importance of taking a realistic, holistic approach to each patient that she treats.
