While mouth ulcers usually heal on their own within 1-2 weeks, try these tips to ease the pain and promote healing:
- Rinsing with salt water, or use an antiseptic mouthwash (savacol, curacept or betadine)—avoid rinses containing alcohol—it will only burn and irritate the tissues.
- An antiseptic gel will help keep the wound clean and promote fast healing (curasept, chlorhexidine gel)
- Nutritional supplements like folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and zinc immune health
- Relieve pain with local anaesthetics gels
- Damp tea bags
Seek medical advice if other symptoms present—ulcers caused by herpes simplex virus may be treated using antiviral medications if caught early.
Remember to see Bite if any sores are unusually large, extremely painful, or that resist healing!
